Board of Trustees Pre-election Meeting

President’s Remarks:  Kevin Byrne

Ø    Welcome to all the residents who are in attendance.

Ø     Introduction of managers and office personnel.

Ø    The purpose of the Pre-election meeting is to present the slate of candidates to the residents.

Ø    The Board of Trustees will also report on the State of the Association.

Ø    Each Board member has one vote out of nine total.  A majority has to agree with a decision for it to pass.  Negotiation and compromising are done to finalize decision.

Ø    The Board of Trustees overcame many obstacles in 2002.  The Board serves the Association for the betterment of the Village.

 

Election Committee Report:  Alice Kreider, Chairperson

Ø    Alice Kreider introduced the three nominees for the election to include, Dave Anderson (absent), Ned Hammond, and Walter Lohmann.

Ø    Ballots will be mailed and must be returned to the Administration Office by 1pm, June 12th.

Ø    Candidates Night is May 28th at 7:30 pm.  Alice encouraged all residents to attend.

 

Kevin Byrne requested nominations from the floor of which there were none.  Nominations were closed.

         

Treasurer’s Report: Ray Johnson

 

Ø    The 1st Quarter was difficult due to unexpected expenses.  Adjustments had to be made.

Ø    The insurance premium increased substantially for 2003.  $25 was added to each of the remaining three quarters assessments to compensate for the increase.

Ø    Snow expenses are $66,000 over budget.  Adjustments were made to the budget to cover snow removal costs.

Ø    Approximately120 delinquencies were reported as of the April assessment.  Members must remit payments and late fees to acquire good standing and be eligible to vote in the elections.

 

Trustee Reports:

 

Mary Carhart, Vice-President:

 

Ø    As liaison to the Worthmore contract, Mary advised that the 2002-2003 storms were very costly.

Ø    Siding and painting are ongoing.

Ø    The Down to Earth snow removal contract used all contracted hours leaving no additional hours left for landscaping purposes.

Ø    The irrigation system is still being worked on to repair damage from the severe winter.

Ø    Frozen pipes were a problem for the irrigation system and residents’ homes.

Ø    Termites are a problem in the Village.

Ø    Carpet replacement, tree maintenance, concrete work, and gutter replacement are all ongoing projects.

Ø    Work requests are important to track maintenance work.

Ø    Mary is also liaison to the Courtesy Desk, Sunshine Club, and Kiwanis.

Ø    The Sunshine Club will hold its annual fund drive in June.

Ø    The Kiwanis Breakfast will be held on Sunday, May 25, from 9am-12pm.

 

Katsy Willey:

 

Ø    As Election Committee liaison, Katsy thanked Alice Kreider for her work with the elections.

Ø    “Creative Hands” meets every Wednesday.  The knitted and crocheted items they make are donated to charities.

Ø    The Riverview Auxiliary had a successful luncheon recently in support of Riverview Hospital.

Ø    The vegetable garden is in operation, under the Chairmanship of Jim Ham.  All garden plots have been allocated to residents.

Ø    The Pet Club Flea Market was the biggest yet, earning $2200.

 

Walter Lohmann:

 

Ø    Walter thanked Lou Vaiti and Katsy Willey for all their work on the Board of Trustees.  Thursday, May 22nd, will be their last meeting.

Ø    Shuffleboard had a record crowd on opening day last Monday.

Ø    Walter thanked John Petracca and the Architectural Control Committee for preserving the ambience and quality of life in the Village.

Ø    Paul Ellman is Chairman of the Condo. Reps. Condo Reps are used by the Board of Trustees as a means of communicating with residents.

Ø    Walter urged all residents to utilize the tennis courts.  George Mayer is Chairman of the Tennis Committee.

Ø    The Democratic and Republican Clubs have a great influence in the Township.  Walter encouraged all residents to vote in all elections.

Ø    Walter thanked all residents for supporting the Board of Trustees.

 

Dave Howell:

 

Ø    Dave thanked all the volunteers for their dedication and service to Shadow Lake Village.

Ø    Dave thanked the Meals on Wheels program for providing hot meals to residents.

Ø    Dave thanked Beverly McKernan and Rosalie Lohmann for their work with the Landscape Committee, Garden Club, and the Tree and Shrub Committee.

Ø    Dave thanked Francis Bubenheimer for her work with the Movie Committee, Walk and Talk group, and the flu shots.

Ø    Dave thanked Ned Hammond and Gerry McKernan for their work on the Maintenance Committee.

Ø    Dave thanked Marlene Ellman for her work with the Socializers.

Ø    Dave reminded everyone that Kiwanis’ work benefits young children.

Ø    Dave thanked Tony DeLorenzo for his work with the Golf Committee.

 

Karl Strauch:

 

Ø    Karl thanked Jack Kilduff for his work as Chairman of the Violations Committee.

Ø    Karl thanked Henry Vullo for his work as Chairman of the Insurance Committee.

Ø    Insurance problems still exist, but are being worked on.

Ø    There were no break-ins in the Village in 2002.

Ø    Karl has just been assigned liaison to the Long Range Planning Committee.

 

Father Joe Quinlan:

 

Ø    Fr. Quinlan is responsible for the Wentworth Contract and is happy with the current personnel at Shadow Lake Village.

Ø    Fr. Quinlan is liaison to the Clubhouse and its maintenance.

Ø    Fr. Quinlan thanked the Socializers for donating two planters in memory of Emma Siegal.

Ø    The Boathouse is under review for upgrades.  The repairs should be done by June 15.

Ø    Fr. Quinlan thanked Chris Sinsheimer and Frances Bubenheimer for their work with the Library Committee.

Ø    Fr. Quinlan advised that two residents will be trained to place emergency notices on Channel 21, when Administration personnel is not here.

Ø    Bodies in Motion and the Exercise Group are doing well.

Ø    Fr. Quinlan thanked Anna Yurko for her work as Chairman of the Pool Committee.  The pool has been painted and will be open this weekend.

Ø    The Billiard Room is under review for upgrading.

Ø    The Rosary Group meets at 3pm on Wednesday afternoons.

Ø    Fr. Quinlan is very grateful to Committee volunteers.
